I have been trying to follow the 'Quick set-up guide' on the sidebar but I am having a problem with downgrading my patch so I can proceed with getting my maphack and multi-boxing to work.
Hi everyone!
I normally play over TCP/IP using glide and I accidentally clicked on battlenet, forcing my game to patch to 1.14. Without glide, the game is virtually unplayable for my summon necro, getting 2-5 fps during battles.
I want to downgrade to 1.13d while 1.14 is being sorted out. However, the video test file disappeared, so using previous guides for downgrading from 1.13d to 1.13c (like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/slashdiablo/comments/o4h3k/how_to_downgrade_from_113d_to_113c_without) won't work.
Has anyone figured out how to downgrade from 1.14 to 1.13d without reinstalling?
Thanks!
I was mistaken, the vid test is part of the patch files, so you can downgrade to 1.13d by re-downloading an old game file here:
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/game-lod.zip
Replace the game file in your d2 file, then download the 1.13d patch here:
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/LODPatch_113d.exe

I delete game.exe from D2 folder > move that one into it > run 113d.exe and it applies it then an error shows with no info then I just can't open D2 anymore and have to reinstall.
If you upgrade from a previous version using an offline game 'PATCH', or log into battle.net which automatically upgrades your version, the method posted above WILL work.
If you register on battle.net and download the full offline game 'INSTALLER' after version 1.14b, this method of downgrading won't work.
The new offline game 'INSTALLER' modifies a couple of mpq files that make them incompatible to previous versions of the game.
Edit .. updated some info for accuracy.
I'm confused about how to apply patches within Mac OS 9 (native boot, not classic mode within OS X). I downloaded v1.13d (although the site listed two kinds):
LOD Patcher 113d
LOD Patcher 113d(carbon)
I'm guessing the one without carbon is what I want... but anyway, I tried them both just for the heck of it and get the following for each: https://imgur.com/MB1HzVo
Is there a special way to apply patches?
HELP: Downgrading from 1.14 to 1.13c?
When I follow the instructions and download the 'LODPatch_113c.exe', it upgrades it. However, when I download the 'game.exe' file and place it into the directory, then rename my original 'Game.exe' file, the game will not open. It comes up with a blank error window then another window opens and says 'Breakpoint' or something?
I had to re-install D2 to get my game working again. Before this, my MH was working fine. Now, I am running on patch 1.14. I'm totally confused at this point.
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing some vital part of the instructions? Can somebody please help me?
Thank you in advance!
In downgrading my patched 1.14 install to the mod-compatible 1.13 version, I received the following error: 'Battle.net is unable to identify your application version'
Most sites say that this indicates a permissions issue and that the user should run the exe in Windows XP Compatibility Mode (right-click, properties, Compatibility). But I was working in wine
, which automatically runs programs as admin (not the same as running under root, which is verboten) so it wasn't a permission issue. What is causing this error?

As mentioned above, the most common fix for this error is to right-click the exe and 'Run as administrator'.
But that doesn't fix it or if you're running wine
, I was able to narrow the issue to the registry (wine regedit
). Removing the two Diablo II folders (in HKEY_CURRENT_USER
and HKEY_USERS
) did not appear to work, so I blew both the 'Software' folders (two levels up) and restored the Software folder from another wineprefix (instance of wine
). Error's gone. It is likely that a fresh install would also work in this case--the main issue appeared to be a conflict between former Battle.net registry files and the patched exe.
I have found that when updating your Diablo II executable to the latest available version you will want to change directories to the program folder that you have Diablo II installed in. For example, if you installed it to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Diablo II/ then you would run the following:
As a final note, this process is only for when you have to update your Diablo 2 install. You can run the game as normal once it is up-to-date.
IF you previously added a 3rd party mod, check the registry key here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Battle.net/Configuration
. Delete the key Diablo II Battle.net gateways
. Then start D2 and select multiplayer... it will rebuild the key.
I'm running windows 7 and a clean D2 install did not work, the above mentioned did.

How to downgrade
So I'm trying to downgrade from 1.14 to 1.13c and so far everything I've tried hasn't worked. I tried what was suggested here: https://www.reddit.com/r/slashdiablo/comments/o4h3k/how_to_downgrade_from_113d_to_113c_without/ but afterwards I get a blank error screen and when I hit cancel I get unexpected error break 800000003. I've tried running in compatibility mode and admin rights but still a no go. I've also tried using D2SE but nothing in that program seems to work for me, when I click on the 1.13c patch it loads up 1.14 and the windowed option also doesn't work.
Any suggestions on how to get down to 1.13c?

How to downgrade from 1.13D to 1.13C without uninstalling!
You can downgrade diablo 2 if you have an older game.exe. It turns out this is the only file the updater checks. If you download an old game.exe from blizzard http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/game-lod.zip Then replace your game.exe with this game.exe you can downgrade to 1.13C. Just download it here http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/LODPatch_113c.exe.
This worked for me and now I can use the slashdiablo maphack perfectly.
